The Summer Reading Challenge, presented by The Reading Agency, is delivered in partnership with public libraries and funded by Arts Council England. The Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to enjoy the benefits of reading for pleasure over the summer holidays, providing lots of fun as well as helping to prevent the summer reading ‘dip’. Each year the Challenge motivates over 700,000 children to keep reading to build their skills and confidence.
The challenge runs from 5th July - 6th September 2025.

Volunteer for your library
Great Glen Community library is run entirely by volunteers and this means that we are always on the hunt for new people to join our team.
You can do a little or a lot - it doesn't really matter, it would be great just to have you here with us.
Typically, volunteering involves 'manning' the library during the open hours and you can offer to do this once, twice a week, once, twice a month.
If this doesn't appeal then helping when we have events or need assistance with some gardening or general tidying up is always appreciated.
If you are interested then please drop us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
We love to host young people in the library so they can get a love of books and reading from a young age.
We have had visits from Stoneygate School, St Cuthbert’s School, Rainbows, Beavers, Cubs and Leicester Grammar School.
We have also had help from the Guides and Brownies in planting our outside garden space.
If you run a youth group and would like to get involved with the Library, please contact us.
